We all rely on seafarers and fishers to meet our daily needs, yet they are hidden heroes who need our help. 95% of everything we consume comes by sea. From food to fuel, cars to computers, clothes to medical equipment, it is seafarers who ensure that we have everything we need to support our daily lives.
Every year, the Merchant Navy Welfare Board supports over 40 maritime welfare charities who work tirelessly to deliver welfare support to hundreds of thousands of serving and retired seafarers and fishers. These keyworkers need our help because, quite often, they are away from their families for months at a time, spend long periods at sea, and get limited time ashore. And we know this affects their mental health and general wellbeing.
Despite the UK having one of the best maritime welfare systems in the world, so many working at sea still face challenges. Welfare charities spend almost £5 million each year to keep serving and retired seafarers and fishers safe and well, but we need your help to provide vital services.
